Case
Study - Development site at Irvine
Road, Kilmarnock
Works
commenced in April 2011
Japanese
Knotweed Solutions were appointed to undertake a full site
survey in March 2011
to assess the extent of the Japanese Knotweed
and Giant Hogweed infestations.
Digital surveying equipment was used
to locate the areas of contamination and a
full pack of recommendations
were produced for the Client.

The site was to be
remediated for future development. Our recommendations were followed and
treatment commenced in April 2011 comprising of the following:
Firstly, the
Japanese knotweed stands on site were cut back to a height of 15cm and then cut
material was stored on site until disposed of through controlled burning. After
the cut and clearance of the Japanese Knotweed an initial spray was undertaken
using residual and non-residual herbicides, ensuring areas were fenced off and
foot washes were installed to prevent further spread.

The Giant Hogweed
was chemically treated , due to the contract start date it wasn't necessary to bag the heads as the seeds had already been
dispersed. The old stems were cut, cleared and incinerated to allow adequate
access for the application of the herbicide.
The site will be
re-sprayed and monitored for a period of 5 years until eradication is achieved.
